War & battle timeline maps

Track a war on the map, day by day

Mark where every commander, scout and army stood at dawn and at dusk, where the front ran, and who held each crossing — then play the campaign back. No spreadsheets, no redrawn maps.

The Siege of Harrow Ford, 14–17 May 1410: step through the days, compare two moments, follow the scout’s trail, or drag a character to change the battle.

Moments, as fine as your story needs

A war isn’t a list of big events. In Lokee a moment can be a day, a dawn and a dusk, an hour — “14 May 1410, 06:00” — or a date in your own calendar. Create the next moment straight from the map with “+”, and the map switches to it.

Start with where everyone stands

Record each character’s place at your first moment. Before someone’s first recorded move the map shows that first place, so a clear starting line keeps Day 1 honest when you add moves later.

Move people at a moment

Viewing a moment, drag a character onto a place and choose “Moved here at this moment”. It’s recorded in their history from that moment on: earlier moments keep where they were, and their character card lists every move.

Front lines and territories that change

Select the front line and choose “Change from here”: it ends at this moment and a copy starts, ready to reshape — earlier moments keep the old line. Who holds a territory changes the same way, from the inspector’s “Held by”, and areas are coloured by their holder at every moment.

Follow a character’s trail

Show a character’s trail and the map draws where they went across all the moments, with each stop named. Several trails at once show who crossed whose path.

Replay and compare

Press play to watch the campaign unfold moment by moment, or compare two moments: Lokee draws an arrow for everyone who moved between them.

Beside the manuscript

Open the map beside your chapter in the Writer and check where everyone was before you write the next scene. The same moments drive the timeline, the graph and each character’s history.

Try it on your own war

Lokee is free for local vaults on your computer. Add a map, create your first moments from it and start moving people — or play with the siege above first.

FAQ

Do I need dates?

No. Moments are ordered; a date is optional. Name them “Day 1, dawn” and “Day 1, dusk” and they work the same as dated ones.

Can I track a battle hour by hour?

Yes. A real date can carry a time of day, and you can create as many moments as you like between two others.

My world has its own calendar. Does that work?

Yes. Define your calendar’s units (for example Age, Moon, Day, Watch) and date moments in it.

Can I keep an alternative outcome of the battle?

Yes. A timeline can branch from any moment; each branch has its own moments and moves after that point.

What about whole armies, not just people?

Anything in your vault can stand on the map — a character, a regiment, a fleet — and move the same way.

What does it cost?

Local vaults are free. Lokee Sync, for cloud vaults on every device, is $5.99 a month.
