The shared-draft problem
Emailing a manuscript back and forth, or dropping it in a shared doc, loses everything that makes your world model useful — character facts, timeline context, and prior notes stay behind in your own tool while your editor works from a flat file.
Choose exactly which book they see
You invite people from inside a vault, so an invitation opens that vault and nothing else. A proofreader working on one manuscript never sees your other, unrelated projects unless you invite them to those too.
See who has access, and change it anytime
Every vault has its own Collaborators list in its settings: type an email, choose Co-author or Reviewer, and press Invite. Pending invitations wait there until they're accepted or you cancel them, and you can remove one person from one vault at any time without touching the others.
Reviewers who read and comment, nothing more
Invite an editor or beta reader as a Reviewer and they can read the whole vault — manuscript, characters, timeline, maps — comment on the manuscript and export it, but change nothing. Switch anyone between Co-author and Reviewer from the vault's Collaborators list.
A reading view for reviewers
Reviewers read your manuscript chapter by chapter in a clean view, on a computer or a phone, and comment on any selection. At the end of each chapter they mark it as finished, so you can see how far your beta readers have got without asking.
Full context, not just raw text
Because a collaborator is a real member of the vault, they see the same connected characters, relationships, and timeline you do — not a flat manuscript file stripped of the context that makes your world consistent.
Comments, mentions and notifications
An editor or proofreader can leave threaded comments directly on a passage, tag entities by name and resolve feedback in place. When someone comments or replies, you and everyone in the thread get a notice in the app and, at most once an hour per vault, an email.
Nothing shared until you choose to share it
A local vault stays fully private on your machine — no account, nothing uploaded. To collaborate, turn on sync for that vault first; even then, only the people you invite to it ever see it.
FAQ
Can I share just one book, not all my projects?
Yes. You invite people from inside a vault, and the invitation opens only that vault. To share another book with the same person later, invite them from that vault too, or add them there from the Collaborators list — they still count as one person.
Can I revoke an editor's access later?
Yes — remove them from that vault's Collaborators list and their access ends at once. Their comments stay in your manuscript.
Does my editor need their own paid subscription?
No. Sharing needs a paid plan on your side — Sync lets you share with one person, Pro with up to five — and the person you invite only needs a free Lokee account to accept. See the pricing page for details.
Can an editor comment on my manuscript?
Yes — anyone with access to a vault can leave threaded comments and @-mention entities, the same commenting system built into Writer.
Can I give an editor read-only access?
Yes. Choose Reviewer when you invite them, or switch them in that vault's Collaborators list. A reviewer reads everything, comments on the manuscript, resolves their own threads, marks chapters as finished and exports — but can't change your text, cards, maps or settings.
Will I know when my editor comments?
Yes. Every new comment or reply shows up under the bell in the app, and you get an email at most once an hour per vault. You can turn the emails off on your account page; the notices in the app stay.
Is my manuscript private until I share it?
Yes. A local vault never leaves your machine, and a cloud vault is only visible to the people you've invited to that specific vault.
