Write your novel without losing track of your world.
Keep characters, relationships, locations, and events connected to the manuscript you write. Import an existing draft or start in Lokee, then consult and update your story bible without leaving the chapter.
No account required for the demo. Local-first desktop app. AI suggestions are never applied without your approval.
Your manuscript knows the story. Your notes rarely keep up.
Characters change, relationships evolve, events move, and small details disappear across chapters and files. A separate wiki or spreadsheet only works when you have enough time to maintain it manually. Lokee keeps the story bible connected to the work itself.
Scattered context
Character details and lore are spread across documents, notebooks, and memory.
Manual maintenance
Every change in the manuscript creates another update somewhere else.
Broken writing flow
Looking up one detail means leaving the chapter and searching through several tools.
One workflow from manuscript to world model.
Write or import
Start a manuscript in Lokee or bring in an existing Word document. Keep the work you already created.
Connect
Mention characters and other entities directly in the text. Open their context without leaving the chapter.
Review
Extract characters, relationships, attributes, and events from a chapter or selection. Accept, reject, or edit every suggestion.
Explore
See the same world through entity cards, relationship maps, timelines, and boards.
Your writing tool and story bible should not drift apart.
Lokee Writer is built on the same entities, relationships, and timelines as the rest of the vault. Rename a character without losing the reference. Check a relationship without opening another application. Extract new facts from the chapter you just wrote and decide what becomes canon.
- Markdown-based manuscript storage
- Chapter and scene organization
- Entity mentions with stable links
- Entity context sidebar
- Extraction from selected text or chapters
- Word, PDF, and Markdown export

What Lokee shows you
Character context while writing
Open a character’s attributes, aliases, relationships, and timeline facts beside the chapter.
Relationship map & family tree
See alliances, rivalries, organizations, and dependencies as an interactive graph, plus a dedicated generational family tree with species/ancestry percentage markers for fantasy lineages.
Story timeline
Connect events to the people and places involved, and branch parallel timelines to track possibilities and drafts with automatic conflict detection.
Manuscript extraction
Turn existing prose into reviewable entity, relationship, attribute, and event suggestions instead of rebuilding the story bible manually.
The Sticky Mindmap canvas is also available for free-form brainstorming, linked straight to your vault entities.
Your unpublished work should remain under your control.
Lokee's local desktop vault works without a cloud account. Your project files remain readable and portable. Cloud sync and managed AI are optional. When AI is used, Lokee shows what will be processed and places results in a review step before anything becomes part of the vault.
- Local vault available without subscription
- Readable project files
- Cloud use is optional
- AI actions are explicit
- AI results require review
- Standard export paths
Less switching between a word processor and a separate world wiki.

Why Lokee exists
Built for a novel that became too large to hold in one person's head.
Lokee began while Paweł Arent was developing the world behind the sequels to his debut novel, Medalion. Characters, facts, drawings, and ideas were spread across files, notebooks, the manuscript, and memory. Existing systems required too much manual setup and maintenance. Lokee was built to organize work that already existed, connect it to the writing process, and make a complex fictional world easier to continue after any break.

FAQ
Questions writers ask before trying Lokee
Is Lokee a writing app or a worldbuilding app?
Both — Lokee is a connected writing workspace and story bible. Write your manuscript in Lokee Writer while characters, relationships, locations, and events stay linked to the same vault.
Can I import a manuscript I already wrote?
Yes. Import an existing .docx file and Lokee proposes a chapter structure you can review, merge, or split before committing it as Markdown chapters.
Does Lokee write my novel with AI?
No. AI extraction proposes characters, relationships, attributes, and events from your writing — you review and accept or reject every suggestion. Lokee never rewrites your manuscript automatically.
Is my manuscript uploaded to the cloud?
Only if you enable Sync. The desktop app’s local vault stays on your machine; cloud sync is optional, and only vaults you choose to sync are stored on our servers.
What happens if I stop paying for Sync?
Your local vault and files remain fully accessible. Sync only adds browser access, cross-device sync, and managed AI — cancelling removes those, not your local data.
Can I use Lokee without an account?
The desktop app’s local vault requires no account. Browser access and cloud sync require a free account.
What formats can I export?
Word, PDF, and Markdown, including manuscripts and boards.
Does Lokee work on Windows and macOS?
Yes, both. Windows builds are code-signed; macOS builds are not yet signed and notarized — see the download page for current status.
Why might my operating system show an installer warning?
Until macOS notarization is complete and Windows reputation is fully established, your OS may show a security warning on first install. This isn’t a sign the app is unsafe — see the trust page for details.
Can I try Lokee before creating an account?
The desktop app is free to download and use without an account. Browser access requires a free account.
Keep writing. Keep the world connected.
Download the desktop app for free, or create an account for browser access and cloud sync.
